OPI New York City Ballet Collection - Review and swatches

Hello my lovelies!

I'm excited to finally show you OPI New York City Ballet Collection. It took some time to get it from US so that's why I'm showing it to you a bit late. But hey - better late than never, right? Big thanks to Karen from Frazzle and Aniploish who made this happen and who also reviewed this collection on her blog.

I was a little bit sceptic when I saw on other blogs that the colours are very sheer but I found at least two I really like! This collection is great for French manicure though.

OPI says: "Collection is inspired by the New York City Ballet (NYCB), one of the world’s premiere dance companies.  New York City Ballet by OPI features five sheer shades lightly tinged in hues of beige, pink, white, lilac and gray, as well as a silver sparkly lacquer. With various sized glitter particles, this hue can be worn alone or layered over any of the other colors for added shine and dimension."

Barre My Soul - sheer milky beige. It's a very natural-looking shade and in one coat creates 'clean, mannequin nails' look. I'm wearing two coats and my nail line is still visible but it still looks very nice and clean.

My Pointe Exactly - grey sheer jelly. Ehm...the only polish that I didn't like very much. It just doesn't agree with my skin tone and made my hands look dead. I'm wearing three coats just it looked very bad when my tips were still visible. It applies nicely though and three coats create quite opaque and glossy finish.

Don't Touch My Tutu! - milky white jelly. I really like this shade; it is like glossy milky jelly on nails! It looks a bit more opaque that some other shades, I'm wearing two coats. It applied very easily, no struggle with the jelly formula.

You Callin' Me A Lyre? - romantic pink jelly shade. Another shade I really like. It looks very natural and clean and in one coat it creates the impression of very clean and glossy nails. This shade would be also perfect for natural French manicure. Again - lovely formula, no patches or other 'jelly' problems.

Care To Danse? - milky lilac jelly. This is cool-toned shade so if you don't agree with cold colour I'd recommend you one of the pink or beige shades. It is more opaque, I'm wearing two thicker coats. Application was very good and removal was without problems.

Pirouette My Whistle - fine silver glitter mixed with larger silver hexagonal glitter in a clear base. The best for last :) This glitter topcoat complements all five shades in the collection but looks good on any other colour. It reminds me Nubar White Polka Dot which is basically the same only pure white glitter. I had to play with the placement of the hexagonal glitters a bit but it's worth it. The topcoat makes nails look delicate and feminine. Below I've used Pirouette My Whistle over My Pointe Exactly and You Callin' Me A Lyre?

Overall, this is a very good collection for women who cannot wear bold and dark polishes to work but still want to have clean and elegant looking nails. Also if you wear French manicure you'll love these shades, they have such a great formula! They all applied easily and I didn't experience any patching. They are not fully opaque in two coats but some will do with three. Removal was very easy too however the glitter topcoat will need a bit of soaking or 'foil method' for easy removal.

Hope you've enjoyed the review! x

  2. I really am wanting this entire collection, they don't look like streaky, gloopy sheers like most sheer polishes tend to be.

  4. I love the names of all of these polishes but I personally wouldn't buy the whole collection as they're all quite similar... The glitter is gorgeous though and I think I like Barre My Soul the best :)

  10. THANK YOU! You re the first blogger I've seen that wasn't head over heels for My Point Exactly. I don't think it goes with anyone's skin tone... it has made every blogger I've seen post swatches of it look like a freshly dug up corpse. Gross, and yet almost exclusively, they're all gaga over it. I'm completely perplexed. The only thing I can figure is that it's novel.

Pirouette My Whistle is truly lovely. I can see myself using it a lot. I'm thinking of getting a backup bottle, but trying to convince myself that that's silly.

    2. Oh and I'm not sure I would go through the whole bottle of Pirouette My Whistle myself so I probably wouldn't buy 2 bottles. Also trends repeat so there might be similar polish in the future again :)

  14. I love these on you. You really need lovely long nails like yours to pull these colours off. I think my least favorite on you is My pointe exactly. The grey is a deathly looking shade. Please don't do anything to break your nails, I love looking at them wishing I had a snowflakes chance in hell of ever getting mine that beautiful!

  15. You have fantastic nails and these looked wonderful on them:). I actually loved My Pointe Exactly - its the first one I've tried of the lot. Tried the glitter top coat but kind of preferred it without.

  16. I hate the polishes, but on your nails even these sheer, uninteresting polishes look good!

  17. These look nice on your healthy nice nails, but I can't stand it when I wear a sheer polish and I can see my flaky nails underneath!
