China Glaze Galactic Gray from the Hologlam collection and freehand lace (pic heavy)

Hello lovelies,

Fancy some more holographic polishes today? I've got one of the new China Glaze Hologlams here (more coming ;) glammed up with freehand white lace nail art. This post is quite picture heavy as it also includes review and swatches of the Galactic Gray alone so please click on the Read more link ;)

There's not really much to say about this look. I wanted to decorate the Galactic Gray polish and I thought I would try to paint some elegant lace :) I've used white acrylic paint and Viva La Nails brushes shown later in the post...

This picture was taken under artificial light. The holo effect is almost invisible and the polish looks very boring :(

These are the brushes I've used to paint the white lace. I've used the longer middle one for the mesh and  the shorter one on the right for the arches and dots. They are nice to work with but the longest brush on the left is quite thick so I will be cutting off some of the bristles/hairs. These brushes are by Viva La Nails and can be purchased here. I'll show you more painting with these brushes in the future. *They were provided for review

Galactic Gray - dark grey base with holographic effect. As many of you, I was very excited that China Glaze is bringing back holographic collection (and the first sneak peak pics looked great!) this spring. Unfortunately the holo effect is not very strong even on the direct sunlight. Despite that I have picked up some of the Hologlam shades so I could review them.

The formula is better than with the OMG collection but it still has its weak points. It applies well until you go over the already painted place for the second time. It creates bald spots and streaks if you don't work fast enough because it dries quite fast. The pigmentation is slightly lower and I needed two thicker coats for good coverage.

Considering the low holo effect, formula and the higher price (as much as £16 as opposed to regular China Glaze polish that retails for £5-7) I wouldn't purchase again. I do have more Hologlam polishes though as I wanted to to show them to you and the swatches will be coming as soon as the sun decides to come out!

  1. Kudos for China Glaze and this collection, even though there are better holo shades from different brands.
I hate when you make a second stroke and create bald spots, it happened to me with Color Club holos, but never before :(

BTW... Nice touch the picture with the ladybug, so cute ^^

  2. I love Galactic Gray. I don't know what base coat you used, but aqua base or no base turned out to be the best for me for Hologlam polishes.

  3. I LIKE THE COLOR, BUT I AGREE WITH YOU, CONSIDERING THE PRICE AND THE POOR HOLO RESULTS, I WOULDN'T PURCHASE IT. THE MANI LOOKS LOVELY THOUGH =)

  12. After buying and wearing some of the Color Club Halo Hues collection, all I can say is "China who?"

I don't know if you can get Color Club in Europe, but their holos are amazing.

  16. Pretty design!!! Unfortunately, I don't really think these polishes are work the price tag. And after all the drama CG caused with Vampy Varnish and Fashion Polish, I don't think I'll be buying CG for a while :(

  17. What a pretty lace design! I'm actually goig to get some tiny brushes today to try out some nail art :)
Also, I think this polish is really pretty, both with and without the holo effect. Just wish I could find China Glaze in Norway!

  19. Great design. I lusted after the Hologlam polishes for a while, but decided to go with the Color Club after the glowing reviews on the Holo and the poor ones on the CG Hologlam. I want in your face Holo, and I'm so glad I got Color Club. While I do love the colours on some of these, I just can't justify the price just to be disappointed with the Holo.

  20. Loving the lace over the holo

  21. Ha! Love the random lady beetle inclusion.
S/He'd look great with holographic spots!

I've been leaning more toward the latest CC Halo Hues too, like others over ChG Hologlams...they are so much stronger.
